A Flipping Fun Month

The month of March was one of excitement in AquaQ. We started off with a bang by competitively flipping pancakes; we celebrated the wonderful achievements of the women in our company; and we rounded off the month with our second yoga session of the year. On top of all of this, the social committee has been desperately preparing every little detail to do with our Easter event this coming month, in which we will also celebrate AquaQ’s eleventh birthday.

Pancake Day

March kicked off with Pancake Day, in which we housed a competition to make the best pancakes, as well as a competition to see who was the best at flipping pancakes.

Congratulations to Danny Greening (who made the Pika-pancake above) on winning the pancake decorating competition. And further congratulations to Robert Coen, who very impressively juggled pancakes between two pans while live on our Stand Up call and won the pancake flipping competition.

International Women’s Day

In recognition of International Women’s Day 2022, AquaQ decided to throw a lunch for women in the office to celebrate their achievements and show our appreciation of the amazing work they do. One such honouree, Cara Harley, not only attended the event but also was the key organiser behind it. This is what she had to say about the event.

The beginning of March brings with hopes that spring is coming and a chance to celebrate International Women’s Day. Occurring on March 8th every year, this year it fell on a weekday so we decided to invite everyone in to the office to celebrate. We filled the kitchens with snacks and invited the women in the office out to lunch in Wagamama’s – it was a great chance to meet people who joined over lockdown and had yet to meet face to face. It was also the first time we were able to fill one side of our office with women!

On the IWD theme of #BreakTheBias we also had a note from our CEO encouraging us to reflect on some of the common language and terminology we still use in AquaQ in a work setting, that just shouldn’t be there and isn’t gender inclusive. Some examples include:

⦁ Let’s stop using “guys” and replace with everyone, all, folks etc.
⦁ Let’s stop using “Chairman” and replace with AquaQ Chair
⦁ Let’s stop using “manpower” replaced with resources/people/team

Yoga

March became the second month of the year where we kicked off a remote yoga session. This gave those taking part an opportunity to relax and clear their minds. Shemille Deschannel once again did a fantastic job of inspiring calmness and promoting exercises that can be recycled day-to-day in order to always get into the chilled state of mind.

Similarly to the previous session, the call was open to all levels of yoga experience. And was an excellent way to conclude the work day, destress and prepare yourself for the evening.

With March over and done with, it’s time to turn attention to our Easter event, which is to be the biggest event of the year so far.
